Perry the Parrot
grew up on a farm.
With all of his friends
who lived near the barn.
He lived in a home
that was hung from a wall.
In a room full of windows
with a view of it all.
He’d wake up each day
to a cock-a-doodle-do,
sung in the morning
when the sun was new.
Rory the rooster
sang once everyday.
He’d sing and he’d sing
till you heard what he’d say.
Perry saw from his perch
all his friends start to rise.
Old Percy the pig
was enormous in size
and was urging her piglets
to “Rise children, rise.”
All his friends now awake
with a stretch and a yawn,
made their way to the food
before the feast was all gone.
Perry sat down
with tea and some toast.
It was the time of day
that he loved the most.
He watched all of his friends
get on with their day.
“We all have a purpose,”
he heard someone say.
Perry thought for a second,
“They’re right, this is true.
But what is my purpose?
Really, what do I do?”
